Market Brief Sep’24
The last year in recruitment has been one of the toughest for recruiters in memory. As a direct result, the market for candidates looking for new opportunities and hiring managers looking to add to their teams is complex.
There is still a strong demand for proven agency experienced candidates with an established client base, but the hiring process is more stringent than in the past and investment is only made where a return is almost guaranteed.
Recruiters who are doing well are not really entering the market. There is more tolerance demonstrated of issues that in different times would be a catalyst for change however the choice seems to be to keep heads well below the parapet!
The IR, TA and RPO market for recruiters is extremely quiet and in this sector there are many high quality individuals looking for new challenges. This scenario has been the case for some time now, but finally there are some signs of green shoots in this area.
Within the agency recruitment sector, some individuals have remained stronger than others. Commercial build/construction, accountancy, industrial and education are on the plus side whereas the worst performer is undoubtedly IT. As recruiters, we are used to changing markets i.e. no vacancies and plenty of candidates or the compete reverse.
The current situation, in summary, is a rarity, stringent demand and very few suitable candidates.
