Head of Temp/Contract – Complex Care – London 2 Days per week
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 basic
About the Role
Our client is a specialist staffing business focused on complex care. We supply highly skilled workers into complex care packages – supporting individuals with life-limiting and high-acuity conditions in their own homes. This is not a widget-staffing operation. The people we place make a direct, daily difference to some of the most vulnerable individuals in the country.
This is a founding role. There is no inherited book, no established desk, and no safety net of existing revenue. You will build the temporary staffing division from the ground up. You will be expected to own everything from worker recruitment and compliance through to client relationships, shift fulfilment, and margin management. If you are energised by building something that does not yet exist, operate at pace, and understand what it means to work in high-stakes care environments – we want to hear from you.
What You Will Own
- Build and manage the worker bench – recruit, compliantly onboard, and retain a pool of complex care workers capable of meeting client demand from day one
- Drive client relationships – convert new business, manage existing accounts, and ensure every client receives a service that reflects the seriousness of complex care
- Own shift fulfilment – manage the end-to-end booking and fulfilment process, including out-of-hours escalation. Shifts cannot be left unfilled
- Manage compliance – maintain rigorous compliance files for every worker, including clinical competency sign-offs, DBS, mandatory training, and right to work
- Manage margin – understand charge rates, pay rates, and fill rate; operate commercially and report clearly against revenue and margin targets
- Build processes – design the systems, workflows, and standards the temp division operates by, so the business scales without losing quality or compliance
- Position the business for growth – as the division matures, identify and develop new verticals and build a team beneath you
Who You Are
We are hiring for character and capability as much as sector experience. The following are non-negotiable.
- High Energy – You do not wait to be told. You see what needs doing and you do it. You are capable of operating at speed across multiple competing priorities without dropping the ball. This is the most essential quality we are looking for.
- Builder Mentality – You have built something from nothing before – a desk, a team, a process, a book of business. You understand what it takes to generate revenue where none exists and you are motivated by it, not intimidated by it.
- Outstanding Communication – You communicate with clarity. You use your words to remove ambiguity, not create it. Whether it is a worker, a client, a commissioner, or a director, you adapt your style and you leave every conversation with alignment.
- Emotional Intelligence – You read the room. You understand that the people receiving care we staff are living with serious and often life-limiting conditions, and that the workers we place carry significant responsibility. You lead with empathy and make decisions with that weight in mind.
- Ruthless Organisation and Attention to Detail – In complex care temp, a missed compliance document or a mis-booked shift has real consequences. You are meticulous, you have strong systems, and you do not let things fall through the gaps.
- Commercial Instinct – You understand charge rates, pay rates, and margin. You think like a business owner because in this role, you effectively are one. You track fill rate, you protect margin, and you report clearly.
- Resilience Under Pressure – When a worker cancels at 6am for a highly dependent client, you do not fold. You activate your bench, you communicate clearly, and you solve the problem. Pressure is part of this role, and you have to thrive under it.
- Goals-Driven – You have personal and professional goals and you can articulate them. We believe that motivated people have goals. We are looking for someone who is building toward something, not just filling a role.
- Ambition, drive, and the desire to grow with a supportive team
Experience
- Proven experience running or building a temporary staffing desk, ideally in care, health, or a high-acuity environment
- Familiarity with complex care, nursing, or SEND staffing is strongly preferred – but exceptional candidates from adjacent sectors will be considered
- Demonstrable experience of worker compliance management including DBS, right to work, mandatory training, and sector-specific clinical competency requirements
- Experience of operating without close management – you must have worked autonomously and have references that confirm this
- Commercially articulate – you can position the service confidently with clients, framing cost against return. A well-placed, compliant complex care temp removes risk, protects CQC ratings, and keeps the patient safe. You can make that case clearly, compellingly, and without hesitation
What We Offer
- £45,000 – £55,000 plus commission / bonus
- A genuine founding role – your name will be on what you build
- Direct access to the directors and genuine influence over the shape of the business
- A contracted back-office partner handling payroll, invoicing, and compliance administration – so you focus on growth, not administration
- The opportunity to grow the division, develop new verticals, and build a team beneath you as revenue scales
